Job Title: Title: Chief Operating Officer

Barley Snyder, a regional Central PA firm with 65 attorneys and five offices, seeks an experienced Chief Operating Officer. The COO is a highly skilled executive who leads and manages all of the financial and administrative functions within the firm. The COO reports directly to the Managing Partner and has four direct reporting areas, including finance/accounting, marketing/business development, human resources and information technology. The COO will be a visible leader within the firm and must have the ability to collaboratively interact at all levels of the firms. The position requires the ability to operate across a broad spectrum of responsibilities including hands-on financial and administrative work to issues involving information technology, personnel management and business judgment.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervises all firm administrative functions, including finance, human resources, information technology, and marketing/business development
- Ensures that all firm policies and procedures are implemented and followed by all attorneys and staff and, where appropriate, suggests and implements changes or additions to such policies and procedures.
- Plans and organizes all internal firm operations; initiates changes in practice and policy to improve efficiency of firm operations as appropriate
- Develops and implements firm’s strategic planning in conjunction with Management Committee, practice groups and other firm committees.
- Hires, trains and maintains a professional staff of employees as well as oversees the applicable administrative areas (marketing/business development, accounting and finance, information technology, human resources, facilities, office services, library and firm offices)
- Acts as liaison with Managing Partner for partner-related activities (partner planning process, compensation committee, practice group management, etc.)
- Provides oversight and ensures overall responsibility for budget preparation, revenue management, expense controls, facilities management, technology systems and other operational planning, at the direction of the Managing Partner
- Attends all partner meetings as well as all Finance and Management Committee meetings and other committee meetings as appropriate; and prepares the minutes of partner and Management Committee meetings
- Handles numerous other administrative functions in order to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the firm.
The successful candidate will be an executive with appropriate education and experience and it is expected that candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field. An MBA or other advanced degree would be preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively increasing responsible experience in managing a sophisticated organization is required. A substantial portion of that experience must be in a professional services setting with some specific experience in the legal industry preferred. Experience with an appropriately sized multi-office law firm is a plus.

Job Title: Title: Law Librarian

Barley Snyder, a Central PA law firm with 65 attorneys in five offices, has an opening for a Law Librarian. The position is responsible for managing the firm’s library and research services including overseeing the law library, assisting in research and CI projects, developing and managing the library budget and ordering and maintaining library materials. This position oversees the resources provided to attorneys, paralegals and staff for legal research, related technology and end user training. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to juggle multiple tasks, have an aptitude for technology and will provide leadership in the management of our law library. This position requires a BS in Library Science. In addition, an MS in Library Science and/or experience in a law library or similar professional service or business environment are highly desirable.
