Malvern, Pa. – International travel is nothing new for partner Salvatore Anastasi, the chair of the Barley Snyder Intellectual Property Practice Group.
Many of his clients have headquarters and development facilities across the globe, and his work as a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Patent Harmonization Committee has taken him around the world to work on creating procedural and substantive harmonization among global patenting systems.
In September, he took to the skies again in the name of global patent harmonization, this time traveling to England. Anastasi, along with Sheldon Klein, president of the AIPLA, represented the organization in a meeting of nongovernment organizations in London on Sept. 15.
Various organizations at the meeting reported on internationally important issues affecting patent owners such as Brexit, the proposed Unified Patent Court of the European Union and patent harmonization efforts of the Industry Trilateral, a group of industry leaders from the United States, Europe and Japan working toward patent harmonization. Anastasi has also been a member of the Industry Trilateral’s American delegation.
Anastasi has worked tirelessly to represent business’ interests in harmonizing patent laws and procedure around the world to facilitate patent application filing in the global markets where they do business.
“It’s certainly not going to happen overnight,” said Anastasi, who also is the chair of the American Bar Association Harmonization Task Force. “It’s something that requires compromise between many countries and many interests. These groups I work with are industry thought leaders who seriously come to the table to explore creating balanced approaches to harmonization which will one day result in improved patent filing systems around the world.”
