Lancaster, Pa. – Throughout one of the most fertile agriculture footprints in the Mid-Atlantic, Barley Snyder has serviced clients in the food and agribusiness industry for all of its 60-year history.
With the formation of its Food & Agribusiness Industry Group, the firm boasts one centralized resource for all the legal needs of clients in that industry.
Barley Snyder formed the Food & Agribusiness Industry Group to pool the resources and expertise areas of nearly a dozen lawyers to meet the rapidly growing needs of clients in the food and agribusiness space, whose market and regulatory landscape is changing almost daily.
“We’re providing this integrated group to more efficiently handle our food and ag clients, many of whom have been with the firm for decades,” Barley Snyder Food & Agribusiness Chair Timothy G. Dietrich said. “With increased regulatory pressures not only for food processors, but also for their third-party supply chain vendors, food and agribusiness companies are under more pressure than ever to be fully compliant under government rules. This group of attorneys has the experience and expertise to help our clients accomplish that.”
Barley Snyder has more than 100 clients in the food and agribusiness space. By pooling the lawyers together, it now can offer clients, in one industry group, knowledge in fields of food and agribusiness laws and regulations including:
- Trademark and intellectual property
- Labor and employment
- Immigration
- Specialty construction contracting
- Environmental
- Finance and lending
- Land development and zoning
- Title insurance
- Supply contracts
The group represents clients to solve regulatory issues from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, as well as state agencies from the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.
The new group offers two levels of client convenience, Dietrich said: The wealth of experience in one group over multiple practices and disciplines, along with the close proximity to thousands of agribusinesses in Central Pennsylvania.
“We’ve got about 3,000 food processors within a 50-mile radius of us,” Dietrich said. “And now we’re organized in a way that’s more efficient for the client, and we’re right in their backyard.”

The group is also planning its first Food & Ag EdCon “Summit for Food & Agribusiness,” a full-day, industry-focused event for business owners, corporate executives and knowledge leaders from leading local and regional food and agricultural companies. The event will be held on March 9, 2017, at Spooky Nook Sports in Manheim. For more information on the event, email Barley Snyder Marketing Coordinator Abigail Hall at ahall@barley.com.
