Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that Jennifer Craighead Carey has been elected managing partner and chief executive officer for a two-year term starting in 2024. She was unanimously selected by the firm’s partnership. Craighead Carey’s term as managing partner began January 1, following the conclusion of former managing partner Jeff Lobach’s successful ten years of service in this role.

As managing partner, Craighead Carey is responsible for overseeing the operations and long-term planning of the firm. She has served on Barley Snyder’s Management Committee since 2021, in addition to serving in prior leadership roles within the firm. Craighead Carey will be the firm’s first female managing partner.

“Selecting the best leader for our future is the single most important choice we make. Our next leader will not merely follow the pattern established over the past decade but will set her own course to take the firm to new levels of achievement. Jennifer’s time among us has demonstrated that she is the person to carry us forward,” said Lobach. “This decision was based on the personal qualities, capabilities, experience and performance that Jennifer has exemplified during her career with us. Her decision-making is thoughtful, her reasoning insightful, and her positions persuasive and well-articulated. We are confident that Jennifer will exercise the mature judgment that will continue Barley Snyder’s upward trajectory.”

Craighead Carey is a graduate of Millersville University and the Dickinson School of Law. She began her legal career in 1993, joining Barley Snyder as an associate in the firm’s Employment Practice Group, ascending to partner in 2001 and serving as practice group chair for 14 years. Craighead Carey commits significant time to leading numerous professional and community organizations across the region. Her impact has been recognized across the state and nationwide, being named to the Lawyers of Color “Law Firm Leaders” list, City & State PA’s “Law Power 100” list, Savoy Magazine’s “Most Influential Black Corporate Directors” list, and more.

“For the past three decades, I’ve had the privilege of dedicating my career to Barley Snyder. Being chosen as our firm’s next managing partner is an incredible honor,” said Craighead Carey. “I eagerly anticipate extending the firm’s legacy of success, laid down by our previous leaders, with a steadfast commitment to developing our strategic growth, fostering our diversity and inclusion, enhancing client service and our strong culture of striving for excellence.”

Lobach, who joined Barley Snyder in 1983, will continue as a partner at the firm, serving clients and providing support to leadership. He has served an unprecedented, five consecutive two-year terms as managing partner. Under Lobach’s direction, Barley Snyder expanded from a firm of 55 attorneys with five offices to one of nearly 140 attorneys with 11 offices.

“Jeff has been an exceptional managing partner over the past decade,” said Chief Operating Officer Dorothy Rund. “We thank him for his steadfast dedication and strategic vision, and we look forward to Jennifer’s future leadership as she guides the firm forward.”
