For Immediate Release
Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that partner David J. Freedman has been named the chair of the firm’s Education Practice Group.
Freedman will lead a team of more than a dozen attorneys who provide full-service counsel to education entities at all levels, from K-12 in public and private education to all facets of higher education. The lawyers of the group cover a complete range of education services, from school board solicitors to employment attorneys for colleges.
Freedman brings a wealth of experience in higher education, especially concerning all aspects of Title IX compliance and investigations at public and private colleges.
“Our education practice is known throughout the region as one of the best you can find at a central Pennsylvania law firm,” Freedman said. “Our plan is not just to continue that level of excellence and client service, but also to help it grow. I believe we have the experienced team that can accomplish that.”
As the new chair of the group, Freedman succeeds William J. Zee, who left the firm in July.
In addition to his work in education, Freedman also is a member of Barley Snyder’s Employment and Immigration practice groups. The East Hempfield Township resident also is a member of the firm’s Hospitality and Food & Agribusiness industry groups. In both 2015 and 2018, the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center named him its “Pro Bono Attorney of the Year,” and he is president-elect of the Lancaster Bar Association.
“David is more than suited to take on this leadership role,” Barley Snyder managing partner Jeff Lobach said. “David has worked with clients who serve students from pre-K through graduate school. In his time at the firm, he has proven himself a diligent worker, a respected member of the community and an excellent attorney. We have full confidence in David leading our education practice into the future.”
Freedman is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Richmond School of Law, and earned his undergraduate degree at George Mason University.
