For Immediate Release
Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder partner Donald R. Geiter has received the Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) designation, a national accreditation in the privacy and cybersecurity field.
The International Association of Privacy Professionals bestows the CIPP/US approval to its members that can pass the rigorous qualifications for knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations and how to apply them locally, nationally and internationally.
Geiter is the chair of the Barley Snyder Cybersecurity Service Team, which helps the firm’s clients navigate the complex laws, regulations and standards that relate to cybersecurity. He has been working with cybersecurity issues for more than 20 years, with his first experience at the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research.
“The CIPP/US designation is an important one in our privacy and cybersecurity industry,” Geiter said. “The laws and regulations surrounding privacy and cybersecurity are evolving almost daily, and retaining CIPP/US certification requires attorneys like me to keep lock-step with these changes.”
Geiter earned a master’s degree in cybersecurity law and policy at the University of Maryland’s Francis King Carey School of Law in 2019. He is a frequent speaker on cybersecurity topics at events for organizations such as the National Association of Corporate Directors, the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association and the World Trade Center Harrisburg.
On February 27, Geiter will be part of a panel at Central Penn Business Journal’s Cybersecurity Symposium at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster County. His presentation will be on the topic, “Best practices when your company works with third party information.”
