Reading, Pa. – Barley Snyder partner Latisha Bernard Schuenemann has been selected as the newest member of the Special Needs Alliance.

Established in 2002, the Special Needs Alliance (SNA) is a national, non-profit collective of many of America’s leading disability and public benefits attorneys. Currently in 48 states, SNA members work to secure Medicaid and other public benefits for individuals with special needs. The SNA’s mission is to help enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities by coordinating private resources with public benefit programs through special needs planning and trusts.

Membership to SNA is selective and competitive and is extended by invitation only. Attorneys must meet specific criteria to ensure that SNA clients are served with the utmost professionalism and compassion. Criteria include a minimum number of years of practice in the special needs area and proven involvement with disability advocacy organizations. Members serve on the boards of national, state and local organizations serving the disability community, and they are current, former or incoming executive members of prominent legal and advocacy organizations. Many SNA attorneys have personal experience with individuals with special needs.

“I am honored to join the Special Needs Alliance, where I can collaborate with like-minded professionals who are passionate about advocating for individuals with disabilities,” said Schueneman. “This opportunity will not only enrich my practice but also enable me to make a deeper impact in our community through dedicated support and innovative solutions.”

A member of the firm’s Trusts & Estates and Business practice groups, Schuenemann focuses on estate planning and estate and trust administration matters in addition to handling various business transactions. A testament to her legal proficiency, Schuenemann has been recognized by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for five consecutive years. In 2024, she was named to the Lehigh Valley Business’s “Women of Influence” list based on her professional experience, community involvement and commitment to mentoring.

Outside of the firm, Schuenemann is actively involved with numerous organizations. She currently serves as a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s (PBA) Women in the Profession and PBA Minority Bar Committees, a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, a member of the Berks County Bar Association and chairs the Berks County Orphans’ Court Rules Committee, a member of the Estate Planning Council of Berks County, a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys, and a member of the Endlich Law Club. In addition, Schuenemann was recently accepted into the Mid-Atlantic Fellows Institute of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Schuenemann holds her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Kutztown University, her Master of Science in criminal justice from St. Joseph’s University, her Juris Doctor degree from Widener University School of Law, and her LL.M. degree in taxation from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law.
