York, Pa. – Barley Snyder partner Justin Tomevi channeled his experience to educate approximately 150 of his fellow York County attorneys at a recent virtual event.
Tomevi was a guest speaker at the biennial York County Bar Association Bench Bar Conference in late October. The bar association selected Tomevi as the panelist for civil litigation, specifically on force majeure – unforeseeable circumstances that prevent someone from fulfilling a contract – and COVID-19.
He also spoke at the last bench bar conference in 2018 co-presenting with Barley Snyder partner Paul Minnich, firm attorney Larry Heim, and the York County Court of Common Pleas’ two civil division judges on local civil practice.
“There are more questions than answers out there right now when it comes to force majeure clauses in business contracts, and the effects of COVID-19 on those contracts,” Tomevi said. “But the courts are starting to sort out some of the earliest issues and there are more precedents being set.
Tomevi is a member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, as well as its Trusts & Estates Practice Group, the COVID-19 Response Service Team, the Construction Industry Group and the Transportation, Distribution & Logistics Industry Group.
He has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyers “Rising Star” each year from 2016 to 2020. He is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is the vice chair of the York Legal Record Publication Board. Recently, the YMCA of York and York County named him to its board of directors. He is a former member of the Springettsbury Township Board of Supervisors and the former vice chair of the York Area United Fire and Rescue Commission. Tomevi also is a Leadership York graduate.
