For Immediate Release

Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce it has hired four summer associates for 2023. The summer associate program lasts for eight weeks and is designed to give aspiring attorneys real-life law experience and gain an understanding of the firm’s internal structure.

Participating in the program are:

  • Anthony P. Austin, from Bucks County, is a second-year law student at Penn State Dickinson Law and a graduate of Penn State University.
  • Tessa J. Brandsema is a second-year law student at Penn State Dickinson Law. The Lancaster native is a graduate of the Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
  • Jonah P. Markle is a second-year law student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. The Selinsgrove native is a graduate of Duquesne University.
  • Curtis J. Tokach, from Mountain Top, is a second-year law student at Widener University Commonwealth Law School and a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University.

“The assignments given to our summer associates are identical to what a first-year associate would receive,” said Partner Alexander Puskar who chairs the firm’s summer associate program and is a former Barley Snyder summer associate. “Our summer associates can expect to feel challenged while gaining invaluable experience, all in preparation for a seamless transition into a career as an attorney after graduating from law school.”

The firm’s summer associate program is designed to allow participants to learn alongside attorneys across various practice areas. They are able to gain significant hands-on experience by attending depositions, client meetings and court appearances. The program also offers an opportunity for summer associates to participate in social activities and firm events, allowing them to network within Pennsylvania’s vibrant business and legal community.

“The summer associate program has been a long-running tradition at the firm to recruit, shape and mold the next generation of attorneys to serve the legal profession in our communities,” said Managing Partner Jeff Lobach. “It is rewarding to watch our summer associates learn from our talented team while working with local and global clients. They become confident in the next chapters of their legal careers. We have conducted our in-person summer program without fail for decades, including during the COVID pandemic. We are proud to count many former summer associates among our firm’s lawyers.”

Resumes for summer associates must be received no later than July 1 for consideration for the following summer. To apply, submit your resume to hr@barley.com with the subject “Summer Associate Program.”
