Lancaster, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that Donald R. Geiter, a partner in the firm’s Lancaster office and a member of the firm’s management and technology committees, has received a Master of Studies in Law degree with a concentration in cybersecurity law and policy.

Geiter graduated this month from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law with his new degree. He previously earned his juris doctor from Suffolk University in Massachusetts.

A Lancaster native, Geiter is one of the driving forces behind the Barley Snyder Cybersecurity Practice Group, which works with firm clients to help them navigate the complex laws, regulations and standards that relate to the ever-changing world of cybersecurity. The Cybersecurity Practice Group works proactively with clients on data breaches, compliance issues, transactional support and contract review as well as litigation issues. He also works with clients on related technology matters, including drone, website and e-commerce compliance.

Geiter is frequently asked to share his cybersecurity knowledge as a presenter and panelist in discussions held by national and regional groups, including the National Association of Corporate Directors, the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the World Trade Center Harrisburg and the Lancaster Chamber.

“No business in the world can avoid dealing with their cybersecurity issues,” Geiter said. “And the notion of relying on IT professionals for all cybersecurity functions is antiquated. Businesses need comprehensive, management-supported cybersecurity policies, plans and procedures that serve to reinforce the technology aspect of their business and will protect every aspect of their electronic information and property. Barley Snyder has been a partner to many businesses in navigating the legal intricacies of cybersecurity.”

Geiter lives in Landisville in Lancaster County, and U.S. News and World Report listed Geiter as a “Best Lawyer” for 2019. He is a member of the board of trustees at both Dayspring Christian Academy and Lancaster Bible College, as well as being a member of the board of the Lancaster Safety Coalition.
