For Immediate Release
Malvern, Pa. – Barley Snyder is pleased to announce Joseph R. Falcon, III, partner and intellectual property attorney, has again been appointed to leadership positions with the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA-IPL). Falcon will now serve as Vice Chair of the USPTO Ex Parte Patent Practice and Policy Committee and as a Member of the Section’s Amicus Brief Committee. In addition, he will continue his role as Liaison to the ABA-IPL Section of Litigation. These roles began September 1, 2024, and are in effect for the 2024-2025 bar year.
The American Bar Association is a voluntary association of lawyers and law students with a mission of promoting justice, professional excellence, and respect for the law across the United States, according to its website. The ABA-IPL works towards the development and improvement of intellectual property law while sharing insights and knowledge with its members.
The USPTO Ex Parte Patent Practice and Policy Committee practices before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with regard to the preparation, filing, and prosecution applications for patent and the granting of U.S. patents and related matters not within the scope of other committees. As Vice Chair, Falcon will help lead the committee’s efforts.
As a member of the Section’s Amicus Curiae Brief Committee, Falcon will play a key role in the careful review and evaluation of all amicus curiae briefs drafted for submission in the name of the Association. This responsibility includes ensuring that each brief is meticulously crafted to reflect the Association’s position on key legal issues and aligns with its broader goals and objectives. Falcon will collaborate with other committee members to assess the legal arguments presented, verify their relevance to the case at hand, and confirm that the briefs meet the highest standards of legal writing and advocacy before they are filed with the court. His contributions will help ensure that the Association’s voice is effectively represented in critical cases where its interests or the legal principles it supports may be affected.
Falcon will again serve as Liaison to the ABA-IPL Section of Litigation, continuing his previous appointment in 2023. As Liaison, he will act as an ambassador, facilitating the development of collegial relationships with other ABA entities as well as outside IP related organizations.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue working with the American Bar Association after a productive 2023-24 bar year,” said Falcon. “I’m eager to contribute to the important work of the ABA’s IP sections and committees, collaborating with a group of highly skilled and committed professionals.”
Falcon is a co-chair of Barley Snyder’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and a registered U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent attorney. He possesses deep knowledge in patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright law. In addition to his ABA-IPL roles, Falcon serves as committee member of the Newtown Township Trails and Greenways, the People’s Light Golf Committee, as well as trustee for the Newtown Square Presbyterian Church.
