Susan D. Brooks

Susan is a paralegal in the Trusts & Estates Practice Group. She has seven years of professional experience as a paralegal and office manager of a Maryland law firm and nearly 20 years of experience as a client service representative. She has worked on estate planning documents such as wills, advance healthcare directives, power of attorney and trust amendments. She has also prepared fiduciary income tax returns for trusts and estates and maintained their fiduciary accounts.

Included in her experience is a period as an intern for eight-term U.S. Rep. C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger in Maryland.

Marianne Drummond

Marianne brings more than 30 years of legal experience to her paralegal position in the Barley Snyder Real Estate Practice Group. She assists attorneys and staff with document preparation, legal research and writing on aspects of the law. She works mainly in general municipal and zoning matters.

Marianne received her initial legal training as a paralegal working in litigation, mostly in insurance defense. She also worked as an assistant editor and paralegal for a law book publisher and has taught college courses in writing, mainly focusing on argument.

In her free time she enjoys reading, tennis and running, and she volunteers at her church as a Sunday school teacher. 

Jo-Anna Kantner

Jo-Anna Kantner is a paralegal with Barley Snyder’s Health Care and Litigation groups. Jo-Anna finds it rewarding to work with hospitals and physicians who give so much of their time and knowledge to treat those in need of medical care. She assists hospitals and physicians in medical malpractice cases with many aspects of the litigation process including, preparing and responding to discovery requests, obtaining and reviewing medical records, employment records, scholastic records, criminal records and related civil case records to further develop a case, prepares deposition preparation materials, researches expert witnesses and communicates with the experts to prepare reports and attend trials, conducts legal research and prepares for and assists at trial.

With Jo-Anna’s extensive trial experience and utilization of Trial Director, she has attended jury trials in both state and federal courts to project exhibits for ease of view and understanding by all in the courtroom.

Nancy A. Holtzapple

Nancy began her career at Barley Snyder focusing on real estate and fiduciary matters. For the past 30 years, she has concentrated on fiduciary matters, including estate and trust administration. Nancy enjoys the interaction she has with clients and other professionals, including accountants, bank trust officers, and financial planners, in handling the administrative and tax issues involved with estates and trusts ranging in size from modest to multimillion dollar accounts.

Jessika Warnick

Jessika Warnick is a paralegal in the firm’s Real Estate and Business Practice Groups. She assists corporate, bank and individual clients with commercial and residential real estate transactions. That includes:

  • Preparing and reviewing real estate purchase and sale contracts as well as lease agreements
  • Preparing private equity and debt financing documents
  • Assisting clients and attorneys in connection with title insurance related matters
  • Coordinating and directing real estate settlements
  • Preparing and reviewing commercial loan documentation

Jessika also assists municipal clients with preparing, filing, tracking and satisfying municipal tax liens, and she assists corporate and nonprofit clients with entity formation, preparation and review of entity organizational documents, foreign registration filings, entity resolutions and tax filings.

She is a notary public, allowing her to help in real estate settlements and business transactions.

As an active member of the firm’s “BarleyFit” Health & Wellness Committee, she has taken on committee and leadership positions with the group, which meets monthly to promote and enhance overall workplace health. Fitness and athletics have always been a part of Jess’s lifestyle, as she played both field hockey and softball at Franklin & Marshall College in her hometown of Lancaster. She was captain of the field hockey team in both her junior and senior year and a Centennial Conference all-star in both sports. 

In the community, Jessika is an active member of the Lancaster Area Paralegal Association, and volunteers at the organization’s quarterly “Wills for Heroes” event. The event provides estate planning documents and notary services for local firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel. The group also helps plan and coordinate the annual holiday party at the Transitional Living Center.

Linda L. Shaffer

Linda is a paralegal in the Barley Snyder Real Estate Practice Group, and brings more than 40 years of legal experience to the firm. She works with attorneys in all of the firm’s commercial and residential real estate transactions, including preparing and issuing title insurance commitments and policies, communications with lenders, preparation of settlement statements and many documents required to bring a settlement to the closing table.

She has assisted in estate administrations for the firm, and has broad experience in business, corporate, zoning and land development areas.

Jenna L. Doerrman

Jenna is a paralegal in the Trusts & Estates group. She assists clients and attorneys with many aspects of estate/trust administration, including preparation of estate tax returns, inventories, court documents and accountings. She commits herself to professionally serving the client and respects the circumstances which may confront each client.

Prior to joining the firm, Jenna worked as a legal assistant for a local law firm.

Kristina J. McVey

Kristina McVey is a paralegal for the firm’s Litigation group specializing in the medical malpractice area of law. Kristina has many years of experience working on mass tort and personal injury cases. She enjoys legal and factual research, writing, and all aspects of the discovery process.

Kendall L. Martin

Kendall Martin is a paralegal for the firm’s Trusts & Estates Practice Group, helping guide clients through the estate administration process. She recognizes that each client and each estate is unique and distinct, and resolves to stay sensitive to their individual circumstances.

In her estate administration practice, Kendall:

  • Generates petitions
  • Prepares and files inheritance tax plans
  • Creates accounts for estates
  • Pays bills and estate expenses
  • Balances estate checkbooks

Kendall lives in Lancaster County and received an art education degree from Kutztown University. She continues to indulge her passion for art with watercolor painting. 

Kelly S. Shuffelbottom

Kelly is a paralegal in our Trusts & Estates Practice Group with more than a decade of experience in estate administration, all in central Pennsylvania. She’s worked in all aspects of estate administration in that time and is a member of the Central Pennsylvania Estate Planning Council. Before working as a paralegal, she spent 15 years as a conference officer and supervisor for domestic relations in Lancaster County.

And if you’re a fan of competitions like the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, you may have randomly seen Kelly on television. She’s professionally shown golden retrievers at competitions up and down the East Coast since 1992.
